ARPA

Overview

This course focuses on the use of ARPA for collision avoidance.  The trainee will gain knowledge and practical experience in manual and automatic acquisition of targets, the use of both relative and true vectors, and identification of critical echoes.  After successfully completing this course it is expected that the trainee will be able to effectively use the ARPA for collision avoidance.

Topics

Relative and True Vectors

In this topic different types of vectors are demonstrated.  The different combinations of true and relative motion and vectors are demonstrated.  On completion of this exercise the student should be able to recognize and effectively employ the different ARPA display presentation and vector modes.

Manual and Automatic Acquisition

In this exercise the trainee will use both manual and automatic acquisition.  The trainee will also be shown how a critical echo can be identified.  The learning objective for this exercise is to understand how to identify a potentially dangerous target.
